On January 28th, Dragons for Israel (DFI) presented one of the biggest events in our organization’s history! Bridging the Gap with President Fry: Drexel’s Presence in Israel was a leadership-networking event seeking to inform students and faculty about the current connection Drexel has with Israel.

The event held three extraordinary Drexel professors who spoke about their work on Drexel’s campus and their current connection with Israeli universities, featuring Dr. Joan Bloch, Dr. Michael Yudell, and Dr. Benjamin Lev, respectively. From an audience member’s point of view, it was quite remarkable to see such strong educational ties Drexel has been continuing to grow upon within just the last ten years. The event also held speakers from Drexel’s study abroad and international co-op team specifically honing in on Israeli organizations that are available for all students. To top it all off, Drexel University’s President Fry was our keynote speaker! His speech brought light to what research initiatives Drexel is involved in, specifically with CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) and Hebrew University.

What may have been one of the most memorable take-aways from the event was President Fry’s support behind collaborating among universities at an international level as well as his upbeat support behind Dragons for Israel and the mission we encourage here at Drexel.

The event successfully brought in over 60 students and faculty throughout Drexel’s campus. DFI was also extremely proud of being able to bring in a diverse audience that was extremely receptive during the event. Bringing students from many different majors and on-campus student groups, we certainly were ‘Bridging the Gap’ across students with dissimilar interests in order to build connections.

DFI cannot be any happier with the response we received from campus as well as from our impressive selection of speakers including the President of Drexel University. Events like these remind us that the pro-Israel work we do on campus is truly worth its continuation. On that note, DFI is onto our next work with Israel Peace Week this upcoming April! Wish us luck!
