On July 10th, 2025, the UK Home Office has officially rejected an application to de-proscribe Hamas, reaffirming its classification as a banned terrorist organisation under British law.
The decision follows a formal request by Riverway to the Sea, representing senior Hamas terrorist Mousa Abu Marzouk, to de-proscribe the terrorist organization and, consequently, decriminalise support for Hamas within the UK.
This important decision comes amid growing concern over the spread of extremist rhetoric on UK university campuses, with over 30 anti-Israel Societies supporting the case to de-proscribe the group, framing the terrorist organisation as a legitimate “resistance” movement.
CAMERA on Campus UK welcomes the decision to reject this dangerous bid, and urges universities to take seriously their responsibility to uphold the law and protect all students from extremism.
