On December 12th, 2023, Rutgers University in New Brunswick suspended the activities of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) for widespread disruptions of classes, student activities, meals, and university programming. We applaud Rutger’s decision to take action against SJP, which over the last two months has parroted pro-Hamas propaganda and incessantly targeted Jewish and pro-Israel students on campus through social media and disruptive on-campus protests.
This is nothing new for the group, who participated in a “National Day of Rage” where Hamas officials called for widespread protests celebrating the massacre of thousands of innocent Israelis, including women and children.
Instead of condemning these unconscionable and barbaric crimes, Students for Justice in Palestine blames the victims of the attacks and deems anyone who supports Israel’s battle against Hamas, a genocidal terrorist organization, Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian. A position they have made clear as recently as December 11th, 2023.
SJP at Rutgers joins chapters at George Washington University, Columbia University, and Brandeis University for flagrant violations of university policies through their open support for terrorism, acts of violence, targeting of Jews, and disruptive behavior. We believe that more SJP chapters nationwide must be investigated and held accountable for their actions.
