On March 22nd, YPA Brooklyn College and the Brooklyn College Islamic Society & Muslim Women’s Educational Initiative held a vigil memorializing the 50 innocent Muslim worshippers murdered in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15th.
Over the last few months, too many innocent lives have been taken by terrorists who shamelessly targeted their victims while vulnerable at prayer. That is why it is even more horribly shocking, confusing, and frightening that Brooklyn College students would chant terrorist slogans while at a memorial for Muslims murdered by a terrorist.
The Instagram account of the Brooklyn College Student Union clearly displays students chanting, “Long Live the Intifada.” It’s possible that the people behind this account may not be aware of what an “Intifada” refers to, yet when CAMERA Fellow Aliyah Jacobson commented under the post that, “…you all called for intifada and continued terror, seems horrific and ironic to me,” she received no reaction from the Brooklyn College Student Union and the video continues to be displayed.
This isn’t the first time support for an Intifada was seen at Brooklyn College. In 2015 during a time of relentless car rammings and attacks on Israeli civilians and just two days after a bus was hijacked by Palestinian terrorists who then murdered two Israeli civilians, Brooklyn College Students for Justice in Palestine posted a flier calling for a “Third Intifada,” supporting the terrorism that had ensued stating, “Respect Existence; or Expect Resistance.”
We expect the Brooklyn College Student Union to remove this video calling for violence and apologize to the Jewish and Israeli community for this egregious mistake.
