Known Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) associate Issam al-Yamani is scheduled to participate in an event at the University of Toronto on September 9th, 2019. In anticipation of the event, CAMERA’s campus advisor and online editor Zac Schildcrout made the following statement:
“It is deeply concerning and, frankly, shameful that someone openly associated with a terrorist organization will speak on U of T’s campus. As the Canadian government notes, the PFLP has been responsible for multiple suicide bombings, car bombings and mortar strikes against Israeli civilians, as well as the assassination of Israel’s tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi in 2001. Among many brutal PFLP attacks were the 2002 suicide bombing of a pizzeria killing three Israeli teenagers and the 2014 slaying of four Jews at prayer in a Jerusalem synagogue. Additionally, PFLP terrorists have executed multiple airplane and bus hijackings. It is a sad day for academia everywhere when radicals affiliated with such abhorrent groups are invited to speak on campus about the ‘struggle for justice.’”
UPDATE: The university has announced that the event in question will not take place on campus. Click here for more information.
