As a kickoff to Israel Peace Week, the EMET for Israel group at Indiana University hosted academic Michael Leitner to give a lecture on Israel, peace, and coexistence. With several partnerships, including the Center for the Study of the Middle East and the Jewish Studies Department, the lecture took place on April 6th.
Through the event, the CAMERA supported group hoped to highlight different types of programs that exist to help promote peace and coexistence in Israel. Leitner is responsible for the creation of sports programs in Israel that include both Jews and Arabs on teams together. The lecture, which CAMERA liaison Amit Boukai described as “simple, yet powerful,” engaged the attendees, who participated in an extensive question-and-answer session. To the delight of the organizers, many of the 22 audience members asked questions specifically on the success of peace programs that Leitner has been instrumental in implementing—exactly what they had hoped the audience would get out of the lecture.
