BDS at UC Santa Cruz was defeated in a majority vote, with 19 against, 17 in favor and 3 abstentions. It is yet another failed BDS campaign to add to the list in the UC system.
Emily Hochberg writes in the Israel Actions Network blog “This is the latest in a series of divestment attempts within the UC university system to be defeated. Student leaders from Stanford University rejected a divestment resolution in March, followed by UC Santa Barbara in April. That same month, UC Riverside students voted to overturn one, and in May, divestment attempts were again rebuffed at UC Davis.”
Read the most recently published op-ed BDS Momentum quashed at UC Santa Barbra by CAMERA intern Josh Arons. There is also a great op-ed entitled, BDS A Hypocritial Movement, published by Chicago Friends of Israel CAMERA CCAP Liaison Blake Fleisher last week in the Chicago Maroon, as well as this good op-ed from ynetnews.com about equality in Israel: ‘Racism’ or extinction.
Students are realizing that in Israel there is full equality for all citizens under the law, as opposed to her neighbors. Israel also wants peace, but unfortunately lacks a negotiating partner. Abbas, the leader of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, is far from a moderate. A recent story reveals that he was offered the release of 50 Palestinian prisoners, arrested for acts of terror, in return for a restart of negotiations. Abbas rejected this offer.
