We are so proud of the CAMERA- supported Binghamton University Zionist Organization (BUZO) for hosting its second annual ZED (Zionist Education Development) Talks. Check out the article below, written by BUZO member and CCAP Liaison Haley Silverstein:
On November 24, Binghamton University Zionist Organization hosted its second annual ZED (Zionist Education Development) Talks. The event, modeled after TED Talks, featured four 15-minute presentations on different Israeli topics and a musical performance by Binghamton’s Jewish a capella group, Kaskeset.
Jasmine Patihi, a Binghamton alumna and educator at Stand With Us, presented on the structure of Israeli government. Professor Robert Holahan, spoke about water and irrigation issues in Israel. Professor Jonathan Karp presented on liberal political ideologies and its stance on Israel. And Chuka Ikpeze, a Nigerian immigrant, spoke about his experiences in Israel as a Christian.
ZED Talks was an opportunity for BUZO to educate a diverse group of students on a wide range of topics. BUZO spent months arranging meetings with other student organizations such as the Black Student Union, the African Student Organization, and Engineers Without Boarders, to find co-sponsors the event.
Over 130 students packed the room the night of the event, making it a huge success. Students left ZED Talks feeling educated about Israel. Each year, the event gets bigger and better as BUZO finds captivating speakers and reaches out to more student organizations.
Full coverage of the event was posted online for Binghamton’s student paper, Pipe Dream.
