CAMERA on Campus UK welcomes the decision by the University of East London (UEL) to retain its adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism.

We hope that UEL will use the IHRA definition of antisemitism to inform its commitment to protect Jewish students.

Christina Harrison, Manager for CAMERA UK, stated:

“UEL’s reaffirmation of the IHRA Definition is a significant step in upholding clarity on antisemitism. The IHRA Definition remains an essential educational tool, empowering institutions to identify and address antisemitism effectively. UEL’s thoughtful consultation and decision affirm this principle.”

Hali Spiegel, CAMERA’s Campus Director, further remarked:

“We hope the University’s decision demonstrates a commitment to navigating the challenges Jewish students face responsibly. CAMERA on Campus UK will continue supporting students and faculty in promoting fair and accurate information about Israel and Zionism in the classroom and the campus courtyard.”

CAMERA on Campus UK continues to advocate for clear, consistent, and effective measures to confront antisemitism, ensuring campuses remain spaces for respectful and productive discourse.
