Activists and public figures, including Jeremy Corbyn and Greta Thunberg, quickly condemned the decision, claiming Ghanem was being targeted solely for “pro-Palestine” activity. Corbyn even called the situation “deeply disturbing.” But this narrative is profoundly misleading.

The White Nationalist, Nick Fuentes, was recently invited onto the Tucker Carlson show and received international condemnation and scrutiny. During the interview, he openly acknowledged his admiration for Stalin, and expressed his belief that “organized Jewry” is to blame for most if not all the major issues plaguing America. He has built his platform by openly promoting libels about Jews and parrots classic antisemitic conspiracy theories about Israel all while using the cover of political commentary as a gateway to legitimizing Holocaust denial.

Notes From a Pro-Israel Student: Our Spaces Should Feel Like Home, Not a Hiding Space

Being visibly Jewish on campus has never felt straightforward, but for the second anniversary of Oct. 7, we refused to shrink ourselves. My friend and I set up a stall in the middle of campus. Around us, we wrapped the pillars with hostage posters, hung Israeli flags and lit electric candles in remembrance. We had done the risk assessment, spoken about security and planned for almost every scenario—experience had taught us that visibility comes at a cost.

When Hate Crosses the Threshold: Antisemitism and the Targeting of Jewish Greek Life

In the early hours of Shabbat morning on Jan. 10, the UC Santa Barbara residential AEPi house was trespassed on and vandalized with a swastika on a bathroom mirror. According to the ADL, this is the fourth time since November that this particular Jewish residential institution has been targeted with antisemitic hate. Isla Vista Foot Patrol, which is part of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, is actively looking into the incident and has yet to release any official information to the public.

Lines Can Blur Between Free Speech and Individual Responsibility at University

Student leaders should undoubtedly be free to hold and express political opinions. Universities are not meant to protect students from controversial ideas or disagreement, in fact discomfort with opposing ideas is part of life on campus. But when student leaders use their institutional authority to publicly endorse misinformation and rhetoric that legitimises violence, the issue moves from protecting free speech to individual responsibility.

How Fear Shapes Advocacy on Campus

On my campus at the University of Birmingham, like many others across the UK, Jewish students are caught in an impossible position. Speaking up about Israel can invite hostility, while staying silent brings its own pain. The fear does not always come from lecture-hall debates or protests; it is the quiet uncertainty of everyday life. It is wondered whether what you say might make you a target, or whether your Jewishness will be viewed through a political lens rather than as an ethnoreligious identity. The reality is that letting this fear keep us silent has only made things worse.

Tension, Tragedy, and Campus Climate

On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk was brutally shot and killed by an extremist during his event at Utah Valley University. He was targeted because he went to campuses and spoke openly, often sharing opinions that challenged others and sparked difficult conversations. His killing is a personal tragedy, but it is also part of a disturbing escalation of extremism and violence against people who engage in difficult conversations and challenge others opinions.

Antisemitism in Canada is on the Rise and Campuses Are Turning a Blind Eye

During a pro-Israel event by the Students Supporting Israel (SSI) organization held on November 5, 2025 at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), a group of student activists affiliated with Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) broke into the building. The activists shouted harsh incitement slogans against the participants, including “Zionists are murderers,” while breaking the glass doors of the hall and attacking the participants, including Israeli reservists who were present. As a result, several participants were injured and the event was stopped.

Antisemitism Hides Behind Activism at UC Santa Barbara

There’s no doubt that the past two years have been filled with moments of tragedy, mourning, and looking inward to the community for the Jewish people. Despite the trials and tribulations that the Jewish people have faced since October 7 2023, the deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust, it has also brought communities together in an indestructible way. Though this can never bring back the lives that were lost, it can bring some peace to the living.

Canadian Universities Risk Silencing Debate Over Israel

When I sat before the governance committee of my student union last month, I came with one clear recommendation: do not adopt the proposed Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) definition. My objection was not to the idea that every Palestinian student deserves protection from harassment or discrimination. Everybody does. The problem was how the definition blurs politics with discrimination, punishes ordinary criticism, and weakens academic freedom. I urged the committee to reject a definition that, as drafted, risks codifying political narratives into policing tools. Hopefully, they will take my position seriously when they issue their ruling.

Radicalization on an Israeli Campus: Lecturer Used Comparisons to Nazis as a Tool to Delegitimize the State of Israel

In the past two years, we have witnessed a sharp escalation in the academic discourse surrounding Israel, on campuses around the world, where extremist rhetoric is spreading, including accusations of “genocide,” comparisons to the Nazis, and the denial of Israel’s right to exist. Unfortunately, even in academia in Israel there are groups of students and lecturers who embrace similar images. A prominent example of this is Dr. Ilana Hairston, a lecturer at Tel Hai College and a graduate of Berkeley and Michigan, who published a post on October 7, 2025 in which she wrote: “Just as the Third Reich lost its right to exist, so too has the State of Israel.”

Back in April of 2025 The University of Birmingham elected student Antonia Listrat to be the next head of the Guild of Students. She was democratically elected by the students to represent them to the University. Students who attend the university are already guaranteed to be a member of the student guild; their main goal is to help develop students’ skills and make sure that students are given the best experience while being at university.

What Makes Students in Israel Show Solidarity With a Terrorist Hotbed?

On January 6, 2026, Border Police and IDF forces raided Bir Zeit University in Judea and Samaria, following riots involving hundreds of suspects who threw rocks and stones from rooftops at the forces. 11 people were injured in the IDF raid, including by live fire. The response from students on campus came the next day, when students from the Hebrew University carried signs in Hebrew and Arabic that read: “We stand in solidarity with Bir Zeit” and “Security and academic freedom for all.” At Tel Aviv University, there was a protest with a sign that read in Hebrew, Arabic, and English: “Everyone has the right to life, the right to education.”…
