CAMERA on Campus: Preparing for the New Year

Hello friends, August was a month of new beginnings for CAMERA as we kicked off the month with our 15th annual International Student Leadership Conference with students from campuses across the US, Canada, the UK, France, and Israel. We also started off the year with our first event at SUNY Stony Brook University.

We are proud to announce the beginning of our brand new Alumni Affairs Program, bridging past fellows and coalition members with our mission, helping alumni stay informed, connected, and activated as lifelong stakeholders. Our Goal is to foster a strong alumni network that supports our Israel engagement work on campus and beyond.

SFI: Speed Friending

Seawolves for Israel at Stony Brook University, a CAMERA Coalition group, started the year off strong with a speed friending event. Giving both new and returning students a chance to enjoy mocktails and Israeli Snacks, make new friends, and get to know the E-board.

Beware: AI may be fueling Antisemitism

How frequently do you message your favorite AI chatbot to answer a quick question? Do you still trust its responses? In its early stages, this technology made glaring errors which stimulated a healthy amount of skepticism. But since evolving past simple arithmetic errors, this tool has become an almost, ubiquitously trusted source. However if you look closer, the errors remain; they are just less conspicuous. This has led to a situation where, similar to Wikipedia, AI platforms have become a new front for the informational war against Israel and Jewish identity.

James O Mahony

Dublin City University

Jamie O Mahony is a student at the Dublin City University and a dedicated student activist and political advocate with a strong background in debate, diplomacy, and Middle Eastern affairs.

As the founder of Ireland’s only Zionist student group, SSI, he has navigated intense opposition while fostering meaningful discussions on Israel. He has hosted and engaged with politicians, diplomats, and journalists through his leadership of his university’s debate society and has contributed opinion pieces to major publications, including the Jerusalem Post and the Irish Times.

“This Is Zionism” is a CAMERA on Campus Instagram project that aims to show the world that Zionists come from diverse backgrounds and have diverse interests. Apply to Become a 2025-2026 CAMERA Fellow

The CAMERA Fellowship is an exclusive one-year program with numerous tracks that cater to the strengths and interests of top-tier student activists. The CAMERA Fellowship application and interview process is highly selective but we encourage all interested students to apply. Our Fellows are leaders on campus, proactively spreading the truth about Israel to fellow students, professors, and campus media. Students from across North America, the UK, and Israel are selected based on their in-depth knowledge of the Arab-Israeli conflict, history of Israel, experience with Israel activism on campus, and portfolio of their published work. Fellows receive a stipend upon completion.

The CAMERA on Campus Coalition provides educational and financial resources for student activists who want to either create a new Israel group on campus or strengthen their existing, but underfunded group. CAMERA on Campus provides guidance and extensive resources to help you build an effective, independent Israel group on campus. Members of the CAMERA on Campus Coalition learn life-long skills in debate, writing, and public speaking, and benefit from close collaboration with CAMERA on Campus staff and CAMERA researchers.

US Campus Advisor CAMERA seeks a full-time Campus Advisor to join its growing team of young professionals providing support and guidance to students interested in activism supporting Israel or countering anti-Jewish and anti-Israel voices and forces on campus. CAMERA on Campus is the university and college-focused department at the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis. Founded in 1982, it is a non-partisan non-profit that strives to correct misinformation in mainstream media. The Campus Advisor will oversee CAMERA Fellows on campuses in the United States. This includes helping them to organize educational events on campus and to write op-eds for various news outlets. Furthermore, they will help develop and implement effective measures to expand CAMERA’s campus presence. The position will be based in our Boston office. Requirements for the position include:

1-3 years of relevant campus experience.
Excellent writing/editing skills.
Strong event planning skills.
Strong skills in communications, interpersonal relations, and organization which will be used to mentor students on dozens of university campuses.
Strong knowledge of history and politics as it relates to the Middle East, Israel, and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Fluency in English.

Video editing and graphic design skills are a plus. Salary and Benefits: The salary is competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants should send their CV, cover letter, and a writing sample to hali@camera.org. No phone calls, please.
