CAMERA on Campus UK Hosts Successful Conference: Empowering UK Students to Take A Stand for Israel\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

LONDON \u2014 On February 18th, 2024, CAMERA on Campus UK, an organisation dedicated to promoting fair and accurate reporting and fact-based academic discourse on university campuses, hosted its annual conference in London.<\/p>\n

Students from universities across the United Kingdom including KCL, the University of Hull, University of Essex, University of Leeds, University of East Anglia, University of Southampton, the University of Exeter, and the City University of London attended the one day summit in light of disconcerting campus trends.<\/p>\n

Following the October 7th attacks by Hamas on Southern Israel where 1,200 Israelis were murdered, the Community Security Trust (CST) reported a staggering rise in antisemitism in the UK. They recorded 4,103 incidents in 2023, which translates to a 589 percent increase over the previous year.<\/p>\n

Patrick Schnecker, a second year student and 2023-2024 CAMERA Fellow at the King’s College, London had this to say about rising antisemitism on college and university campuses.<\/p>\n

\u201cPalestinian societies, faculty, and radicalised groups attempt to monopolise discussions about Israel, Zionism and the Arab-Israeli conflict with anti-intellectual and antagonistic narratives. Their contempt for Jews and the world’s only Jewish state is undeniable. This is what makes CAMERA\u2019s conference so timely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe brought together students, scholars, and advocates from across the UK to engage in meaningful discussions about pro-Israel activism. Students don’t just need assurances that the Jewish and pro-Israel community stands with them, they need the tools required to take a stand for the truth\u201d said Christina Jones, UK communications associate for CAMERA.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur UK conference featured dynamic speakers, insightful panels, and interactive workshops aimed at equipping participants with the tools to navigate complex conversations. Attendees had the opportunity to explore various aspects of media literacy and effective advocacy to combat antisemitism,\u201d said Douglas Sandoval, managing director of CAMERA on Campus.<\/p>\n
