Sunrise Movement<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is a group of young activists dedicated to stopping man-made climate change. The organization has over 400 branches, most of which\u00a0are\u00a0located in the US. One of the political branches of the\u00a0organization located in\u00a0Washington DC (DC chapter)\u00a0<\/span>announced<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on October 20th\u00a0on\u00a0Twitter<\/span><\/a> that it refused to\u00a0attend the voting rights rally in Washington DC due to the inclusion of Jewish organizations that hold different levels of support for Zionism.<\/span><\/p>\n

In response to the accusations of antisemitism,\u00a0<\/span>Sunrise DC issued a clarification<\/span><\/a>\u00a0regarding their intentions to boycott the three Jewish organizations for their support of Israel<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>noting that it was wrong of them to only speak out against Jewish groups that support Israel\u00a0and not also include \u201cother organizations \u2026with similar positions\u201d\u00a0in their condemnation. However, the real problem is not their hypocritical apology, but the continued adaptation of the false narrative against Zionism. Their opposition to Zionism is itself an\u00a0<\/span>antisemitic\u00a0stance<\/span><\/a>\u00a0because opposition to a Jewish state is an attack on millions of Jews inside and outside Israel and the erasure of their ethnic identity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But,\u00a0according\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>archeological findings<\/span><\/a>, journals, various religions,\u00a0and scholars, the birthplace of the Jewish people is\u00a0in\u00a0the Land of Israel. There, a major part of the long history of the\u00a0Nation\u00a0occurred. There, its cultural, religion,\u00a0and national identity was formed. And there, its physical presence has been preserved for centuries. During the many years of exile, the Jewish people\u00a0never\u00a0forgot\u00a0its\u00a0connection with the land. With the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, Jewish independence, which had been lost 2,000 years earlier, was renewed.\u00a0 It is impossible to break the connection between the Jewish people around the world and the state of Israel.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As for their accusation that Israel has declared Palestinian organizations affiliated with the \u201cPopular Front for the Liberation of Palestine\u201d as terror organizations\u00a0just so that Israel can easily cease its activities,\u00a0they\u00a0forgot\u00a0to mention that the \u201cPopular Front\u201d has\u00a0<\/span>targeted\u00a0Israeli citizens in terror attacks for decades<\/span><\/a>. In fact, the terrorists connected to this terror organization are responsible for some of the largest and most severe terror attacks against Israel. For all these reasons, the \u201cPopular Front\u201d has been declared a terror organization by many\u00a0<\/span>countries all over the world<\/span><\/a>, among which are the European Union, the United States, Canada<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and more. Among these horrific terror acts was\u00a0<\/span>the heinous murder of the\u00a0Fogel family in 2011<\/span><\/a>, in which 5 members of the family were murdered: the parents- Ehud and Ruth and three of their young children- Yoav (age\u00a011),\u00a0Elad\u00a0(age\u00a04) and\u00a0Hadas\u00a0(a 3-month-old baby).\u00a0<\/span>In 2019, an explosive device planted<\/span><\/a>\u00a0near a\u00a0spring\u00a0where an Israeli family\u00a0was hiking\u00a0led to the murder of Rina\u00a0Shnerb\u00a0(age 17)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and injured her father and brother.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the problems of such organizations is that they take on a struggle that many agree with, such as the climate crisis, LGBQT movements, Black lives matter and more, and along the way disseminate to thousands of\u00a0followers\u00a0false information about Israel. Calls for a boycott of Jews only based on their identification with the Jewish state, is just a cover for\u00a0antisemitic\u00a0discrimination\u00a0that should have been uprooted from the world long ago. The saddest part is that even in the condemnation messages of the other branches of the Sunrise Movement and\u00a0within the clarification message of D.C. chapter, there\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0a slightest hint of\u00a0acknowledgment or\u00a0remorse\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0the\u00a0egregiously\u00a0distorted \u201cfacts\u201d\u00a0written about Israel.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
