CAMERA on Campus is appalled\nat the shameless display of ignorant hatred at the \u201cHarvard out of Occupied Palestine Launch Event<\/a>\u201d on February 20th<\/sup>,\n2020. On multiple occasions throughout the night, students and panelists\nuttered patently absurd slurs, ranting about the \u201cIsraeli settler-colonial\nstate,\u201d Harvard\u2019s supposed \u201cnursing\u201d of the \u201cIsraeli-Zionist monoglossia,\u201d\n\u201chegemonic Zionism on Harvard\u2019s campus,\u201d as well as Israel\u2019s \u201capartheid\u201d\npolicies \u2013 a baseless accusation that has been thoroughly debunked<\/a>. For example, in the supposedly\napartheid state of Israel\nthere are Arab legislators in the Knesset, Arab diplomats in the Foreign\nMinistry, Arab generals in the Israel Defense Forces, and also Arab judges. In\nfact, it was an Arab District Court judge (George Karra<\/a>) who sentenced former Israeli\nPresident Moshe Katzav to jail, and an Arab Supreme Court Justice who upheld\nthe sentence (Salim\nJoubran<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as false as the apartheid\ncharge were the speakers’ baseless allegations<\/a> that Israel buries Palestinians in\n\u201cmass graves,\u201d that the IDF is \u201cindistinguishable from a terrorist\norganization,\u201d and that \u201cbad-faith Zionist actors\u201d target \u201cgrassroots,\npro-Palestinian organizing.\u201d In fact, Jews and supporters of Israel are the\nones being targeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presumably referencing\nIsrael\u2019s defensive military operation in Gaza during the summer of 2014\n(Operation Protective Edge), one speaker alleged that the IDF killed \u201c551\nbabies in 51 days,\u201d a claim not even made by the terror group Hamas that rules\nGaza. In fact, the total number of Palestinians aged 17 or younger<\/a> <\/a>killed <\/a>in the<\/a> fighting was<\/a> 194<\/a>,\nthe majority of those being combatants aged 17 or nearly 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps most disturbingly,\nOmar Barghouti, co-founder of the BDS movement, declared his support for a\nsecular, binational state in which \u201cthe indigenous Palestinians\u201d and \u201ccolonial\nsettlers\u201d are treated equally. Contrary to Barghouti, Jews are the indigenous\npopulation, who lived in a sovereign kingdom thousands of years before the\nadvent of Islam and the Arab invasion and conquest of the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once again, we strongly\nreiterate our belief that anti-Zionism is antisemitism, as it aims to strip\nJews, and only Jews, from the community of self-determining peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is deeply concerning to see such anti-Zionist hatred on Harvard\nUniversity\u2019s campus. We call on all those who care about truth and justice to\nmake their voices heard in denouncing the Harvard College Palestine Solidarity\nCommittee et al.\u2019s lies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
