Boston, MA, March 14, 2025 – CAMERA on Campus announces the successful completion of a North American tour with DiploAct, a cornerstone of its fifth annual Apartheid Week Exposed campaign. The tour, which ran from February 18th to March 4th, 2025, visited multiple universities across the United States, promoting meaningful discussions about Israel and countering misinformation on college campuses.
The Apartheid Week Exposed campaign, strategically timed to counter Israeli Apartheid Week, has been instrumental in equipping students with critical tools to combat anti-Israel disinformation and confront hostility on their campuses. This year’s initiative comes at a crucial time, as campuses have seen a significant rise in anti-Israel rhetoric and misinformation since the events of October 7, 2023.
The DiploAct tour included stops at several prominent institutions, including the University of Southern California, University of California San Diego, University of California Berkeley, Rutgers University, University of Chicago, University of Missouri, University of Colorado Boulder, Yeshiva University, and Boston University. These events provided students with direct access to Israeli voices, offering crucial firsthand perspectives on the complex realities of the region.
Shelly Khaiken, a CAMERA Fellow at the University of California, San Diego stated, “As a CAMERA Fellow, I’m always prepared to address misconceptions about Israel. Bringing the DiploAct tour to our campus was an incredible opportunity to expose my peers to expert voices and create a more nuanced understanding of the complex realities in the Middle East. The impact on our student body was profound and overwhelmingly positive.”
Joachim Sciamma, a CAMERA Fellow at the University of Chicago commented, “Hosting the DiploAct tour as part of the Apartheid Week Exposed campaign was a game-changer for our campus dialogue. As a CAMERA Fellow, I’m committed to promoting factual discourse, and this tour provided my peers with direct access to knowledgeable speakers who could address challenging questions and misconceptions. It was gratifying to see how this initiative opened many eyes and minds.”
Members of the DiploAct team also reflected on the tour’s impact:
Jonathan Elkhoury, a DiploAct envoy, stated, “Our tour demonstrated the critical need for factual information and open dialogue on college campuses. We witnessed firsthand how students are hungry for balanced perspectives on Israel, and it was inspiring to see them engage thoughtfully with complex issues.”
Eden Melamed, another DiploAct representative, added, “The enthusiasm and dedication of the students we met during this tour were truly remarkable. Their commitment to combating misinformation and promoting understanding gives me hope for the future of campus discourse on Israel and the Middle East.”
Commenting on the success of the tour, Bar Suisa, Academic Director at DiploAct said “DiploAct will continue to stand at the forefront of the fight against antisemitism and the delegitimization of Israel and the Jewish people. Wherever and whenever we are needed, we will be there.”
The successful completion of the DiploAct tour marks another milestone in CAMERA on Campus’s ongoing efforts to provide students with the resources and support they need to advocate for Israel and combat antisemitism on college campuses. This initiative is particularly crucial given the recent surge in campus antisemitism.
As part of the ongoing Apartheid Week Exposed campaign, CAMERA on Campus continues to support students in sharing educational content across social media platforms, tabling on campuses with informative materials, and hosting exclusive events featuring expert speakers.
